Biting cold heralds fight for survival
WEDNESDAY, 3 JULY, 2019 I For immediate release
The arrival of a cold snap has most South Africans reaching for their warm woollies, heaters and hot food. But for people living on the streets, it heralds a fight for their survival in the biting cold winds.
The Salvation Army responds to their plight by providing blankets, warm clothes and hot soup throughout the winter.
PR Secretary of The Salvation Army, Major Carin Holmes, says: “Our ministry of soup kitchens and providing blankets and food is a life saver for many homeless people. There are many reasons why people end up living on the streets, from joblessness to substance abuse. Our ministry is to provide whatever comfort we can.”
Major Holmes appealed to members of the public to support The Salvation Army in this outreach.
“Even a small donation can go a long way towards helping those not as fortunate as yourself, and we ask you to be generous in your giving,” she added.
Contributions can be made to the following bank account:
Bank: First National Bank
Branch: Braamfontein
