Important tax information
It’s important for us to recognise your generosity by providing you with your Section 18A tax certificate so that you can claim some benefit from your donations.
It’s therefore important for you to know that changes to the Non-Profit Act now require a donor’s tax number (if available) and ID number to be on the Section 18A tax certificate. This change will be effective from 1 March 2023.
The South African Revenue Service advises that this is to develop a more efficient process for allowing deduction for qualifying donors who are South African taxpayers; and to help prevent the abuse of Section 18A claims.
This new information must be included on receipts and is in addition to basic information already provided on receipts.
Please be advised that in future our donation forms will request you to provide your income tax number (if available), identification document type and country of issue, ID or registration number, contact number, email address and trading name (if different to your registered name).
Gifts to The Salvation Army are tax deductible in terms of Section 18A(1)(a) of the Income Tax Act. To save costs and improve efficiencies we will be issuing tax receipts only at the end of the tax year.
Should you require a tax receipt earlier please contact us on 011 718 6746 or email safpr@saf.salvationarmy.org
