Where to when all avenues close?

All avenues closed for Jackie* and her two sons, Timothy* (9), and Michael* (7).

From being a happy family, life changed in the instant that Jackie’s husband, John, was killed in a car accident. Jackie became the sole breadwinner – and then she was retrenched.

They managed to survive for four months until they hit rock bottom and the horror of being homeless. As Jackie says, “When you’re down and out, family and friends don’t want to know you.”

But what Jackie didn’t know is that there are people like you in the world who do care, and give new hope through their gifts of support.

Two places of hope are our Goodwill Centres which provide refuge until people in dire situations can get back on their feet. They are aptly named, because they exist through the good will of Salvation Army friends like you.

For Jackie and her two sons, now safely living in temporary accommodation, with both boys in school, their gratitude for your caring kindness is enormous.

The Goodwill Centres are bridges to restored life where everyone helps with the everyday running of the centres.

They also cook for those who are homeless – knowing what that’s like, because they’ve been there.

People arrive here broken, often with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. Thanks to friends like you, counselling is also available to help people work through their problems, make necessary changes, find their selfworth again, and often also faith.

Thank you for your ‘goodwill’, and your generosity.

Thank you for ‘being there’ for people like Jackie and her sons.
