Winter cold brings need for food and blankets

FRIDAY, 12 JUNE, 2020 I For immediate release

With much of the country hit by bitterly cold weather, The Salvation Army has extended an invitation to the public to help needy people keep warm and fed.

Major Carin Holmes, PR Secretary of The Salvation Army Southern Africa Territory, notes that many more people are in need this year because of the impact of the Coronavirus and its disease, Covid-19.

“During the period of the lockdown, we have been inundated with calls for help for a variety of needs. These range from food, warm clothing and blankets, to shelter for abused women and children.”

“Many of our churches have been involved in feeding schemes to help people who have lost their jobs or were already unemployed.”

“At this time of mid-winter, when some of the coldest times of the year are experienced, we urgently need the help of the public to cope. Even the smallest donation can make a difference in showing that you care about people in need,” she added.

Donations can be made to the following bank account:
Bank: First National Bank
Branch: Braamfontein
Branch code: 251905
Account name: Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal
Account number: 50540087604
Reference: Please give your name and “Winter” as a reference.
