You walked through the ashes with us

The devastation of fire can begin with a tiny spark or a small flame which gathers momentum and races into a runaway fire.  The flames quickly eat up the fuel around them and hungrily move on.

This is what happened in the Selby community in January, where the fire wrought total destruction.  All that remained was the acrid smell, and a carpet of ash which puffed up over our shoes as we walked on site to see how we could help.

Where once there had been homes side by side, now there was nothing, with people desperately wandering around in a daze to see if they could find anything at all to salvage.

Because we have support like yours, we were able to go into Selby to offer blankets and food to the residents, along with words of comfort.  All were received with enormous gratitude.

Thank you for walking in spirit with us through the ashes of Selby, and for your kindness which we were able to bring to this community.

The road to rebuilding lives and homes will be a long one.
